What Does The Failing Of Auto Manufacturers Mean To Me?
Most auto manufacturers do not make their own parts. They have a host of suppliers that build the parts and the manufacturer assembles the car. This is how aftermarket parts are readily available for that new car. The parts can be built for all the aftermarket companies because they use the same supplier as the manufacturer. Isn't that great? However, there is a caveat. If the manufacturing sector drops off, the suppliers are also hurt. If they cut back on manufacturing for the OEM, it is also cut back for the aftermarket. This could create a great shortage of parts. Also, with half of GM dealers closing by the end of 2010, there will be less parts supply available from dealers. It would probably be a good idea to get your car in shape before you go on vacation now more than ever. Do not get stuck on the side of the road with a limited part supply this summer. Most of us have never known a time of a "shortage" of anything. We are already noticing a delay in the availability of parts. Please, make sure you plan ahead so your vacation does not become a nightmare.
